This Blows! Sleep is a Distant Memory…and Now My Baby is Sick!

My baby is sick and he’s bringing us all down with him! Help!

My poor little Bubba couldn’t sleep last night; it was not pleasant at all! At first I thought it was teething because it looked like his top tooth was trying to break through. (He already has two bottom teeth, and when they broke through, the kid was in serious discomfort) But now I think he’s just plain ol’ sicky. His nose is super runny, he sneezes from time to time, and nothing helps him sleep throughout the night. Daddy and I tried everything! We rubbed and patted his back, gently shook the crib, put on his musical glow worm, we even tried a song and dance…nothing. And now that decongestants for babies are off the market, what’s a Mommy to do!

All we could do was rub some baby vicks on his back, give him some Tylenol and hope for the best. (Note: if your kid is asthmatic, baby vicks or any other inhalants are not recommended) My friend suggested I run a hot shower and sit with him in the bathroom. The steam is supposed to loosen the built up mucus. UGH…I’ve been worried about him all day.

When I left for work, my bubba’s cute little face looked so exhausted. My heart actually broke in half when I walked out the door to go to work. WTF! Work blows! I love my job, but I wanted to stay home with my sick kid. It’s the idea of work that sucks. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we should have a 4 day work week and a 3 day weekend. We would all have a much more balanced life. How would one go about trying to change the work week? Who even made an official 5 day work week? Hmm…

Anyway, my kid is sick and I probably won’t get much sleep tonight. Looks like I won’t be sleeping for a while…another 5 years or so…Anyone have any suggestions on how I can relieve my 7 month old’s insanely stuffy nose?

    Try two things:
a humidifier in his room, run on high during the day, and low at night
put a pot of water on to boil, sometimes I’ll do it for the whole day.
Also, what temperature is your home? To keep as much moisture in as possible try keeping it between 66-72 degrees.

    • Welcome! Thanks for dropping by. My apartment is HOT, lol. I have to figure out a way to keep the temperature a little cooler. We’ve been putting a pot of hot water to boil lately, and it seems to be helping. Looks like we should definitely invest in a humidifier. Thanks for the tips…see you soon ;O)

I’d swear by Little Noses Saline Mist and vicks (or the natural equivilant) on the feet with thick socks. Don’t know exactly why the 2nd part works but it does! Our house is dry because of our heating source, my 9mo uses saile 2x/day. Nice because you can’t over due it. Boggie wipes are great too, when it starts to drain. Feel better soon Bubba!

    • Welcome! Thanks for the tips. I’ll look into those. I’ve heard of boggie wipes a lot lately; gotta get some. It turns out he has an ear infection. He seems to be getting better slowly though. :O) Thanks for coming by, and please come again soon…

  3. Aww I hope your lil’ man feels better :(

    • Thanks! It turns out he has an ear infection! He just started antibiotics and motrin yesterday. He slept a little better. I feel so bad for my little bubba :0(

  4. Ugh! Having a sick kid is so rough–and you do just feel so bad for them. Hope he gets better soon and you hang in there too!

Poor baby! Hope he feels better soon! Lots of TLC has proven to cure even the sickest babies. Hope momma gets her rest soon! A night out without kids seems like a distant memory!

    • Thanks Shell! He’s received a lot of hugs and kisses and I think they have definitely helped. :0) I would normally love a night out, but right now I’m really looking forward to good nights sleep…sooo tired.
